After a hard day there is nothing better than slipping into a bed that feels fresh, crisp and irresistibly soft. Our 100% organic cotton bed linen has been designed to offer just that. We are always here to help and would love to hear from you if you have any questions at all. We’ve listed a few below!

What are the benefits of organic cotton?

This is a great question! Switching to organic cotton has a number of benefits for you, your family and your global neighbours. The environmental effects are astounding: farmers are able to grow cotton without the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides, preventing seepage and contamination into the groundwater that is so essential to the health and safety of local communities. This also means that you and your family can have a truly peaceful sleep, knowing that our bed linen is pure, grown naturally and provides opportunity for so many people.

What does thread count mean, and why does it matter?

Thread count (TC) is a measure that refers to the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric. The more threads there are, the more luxurious the sheet in terms of softness and smoothness.

Linen Quarter sells both 200 Thread count (TC) and 300 TC, giving the consumers the benefit of the perfect match of luxury and affordability.

Are the pillow cases sold in pairs or separately?

Our pillowcases are all sold in pairs (2 in a packet). If you would only like one, it is always useful to have one spare!

What is the difference between Oxford and Housewife pillow cases?

Oxford Pillowcases have a 5 centimetre border of fabric around the edge of the pillowcase. A Housewife pillowcase has no border at all, with no feature around the edge.

How do your duvet covers fasten?

All of our duvet covers fasten at the foot end with hidden sewn buttons and button holes for a neat and tailored look. They can be hidden inside the cover itself so you can’t see them at all. The corners are hemmed to 15 centimetres in, so your duvet is neatly contained and won’t pop out at the corners.

How deep are the fitted sheets?

All of our fitted sheets are 34 centimetres deep and will fit mattresses up to that depth. Do not worry if you do not have a deep mattress. They will still be a nice snug fit as they are elasticated all the way round and the extra fabric can be kept neatly under the mattress.

Do I need to wash my bed linen before using?

Our bed linen is made from natural fibres, so you will notice that your new bed linen will shrink a little on the first wash. This is completely normal. We recommend that you wash it before you use it. You may notice the size feeling bigger on your fitted sheets – don’t worry if it’s not a perfect fit when you first take it out of the packet. It will shrink to fit after its first wash.

How should I care for my bed linen?

We would recommend washing our 100% organic cotton bed linen at 40oC but it can be washed at 30oC. Lower temperatures save energy, helping to be kinder to the environment. If you are tumble drying this bed linen, tumble dry on a low heat and remove promptly from the dryer. Please follow the care label instructions.

How much will my bed linen shrink?

Our bed linen is sent to you slightly oversized to account for the slight, natural shrinkage that will occur after their first wash. Why is this important? Our production process is free of any harmful chemical sizing agents or other laundering practices to pre-shrink the final product. We avoid these steps to remain true to our organic certified standards – and minimise the environmental impact of production by using less water, heat and other additives. If your sheets fit looser in the beginning, rest assured that after the first few washed your sheets will have the perfect fit.

Do not worry! Shrinkage is completely normal with 100% natural cotton bed linen. Bed linen shrinks around 5% the first few times you wash them. Linen Quarter has allowed for this shrinkage.

How can additional shrinkage be prevented?

Stay away from excessive heat. This means that you should not use hot water in the washing machine, use high heat or over-dry. Exposure to too much heat will also cause premature wear.

Which bed linen is best to choose for minimal ironing?

If you are not a fan of ironing, we would recommend you choose a sateen weave finish. This takes the least amount of ironing (if any when you dry flat). We would advise you to stay away from pure cotton percale if you do not want to iron every time and you like a crease free bed. Percale cotton needs the most work, but it is certainly worth it and one of our very best sellers.

What is the difference between soft & smooth and cool & crisp?

Our luxurious soft and smooth is made from sateen cotton fabric and has a 300 thread count. Sateen cotton provides a lustrous silky like feel to the skin resembling satin, giving a silk-like touch and attractive lustre or sheen.  Cotton sateen fabrics are softer than those with a percale weave. Sateen fabrics are soft, smooth and hard wearing, which is perfect for bed linen products as they wash well. Our soft & smooth is made from the finest 100% organic cotton.

Our luxury cool & crisp is made from premium percale cotton weave fabric and has a 200 thread count. Percale cotton provides a soft and silky like feel to the skin. Percale fabrics are smooth, soft and hard wearing, which is perfect for bed linen products as they wash well. Our cool & crisp is made from the finest 100% organic cotton.

All our organic cotton bed linen products are super soft and 100% natural. As to which is better there is no answer as it’s a matter of personal taste; some people prefer the crispness of a percale weave, others like the smoothness of the sateen weave. It’s a personal choice. Cool & crisp or soft & smooth? You decide.
